Union & Department Threats

Postby JAFO » Sun Feb 28, 2010 2:30 am

For the information of all members, be weary what you post. Even though we live in a country that supports free speech, it seems this forum is monitored by Union’s and Departments alike and comments posted by members turn into threats.

So good for free speech

Given the recent media coverage regarding bullying, harrasment and threats in the NSWFB, I'd have thought the NSWFB and union would be 'on their best behaviour'.

Fortunately for me, I only have to worry about the RFS, and that's not a worry at all.

That's interesting, I wonder if the person monitoring this site is a 100k per year civilian.....

Maybe admin can keep an eye on the members not posting.

At present you do not need to be a member to read posts, this may need to change if this is an issue, this way I can keep a closer eye on thinks. I was hopping to keep these forums open and free to all, maybe this is not possible!

So if anyone reads a forum and doesn't post back, they are sus? I don't think so. Obviously lots of members read posts without replying! If they all felt obliged to post or be suspected they'd simply post rubbish!

my only question would be, why join if you dont want to post, you can see the forums and listen to the stream as a guest, why join up if you dont want to contribute

I think for some, it may be the fact that they enjoy reading and in some cases learning from what is posted by members but don't fill they have worthy information to add.

I know with Amateur radio, many times I will sit on a site while driving and listen to conversations on different subjects where the subject mater is less known or new to me, but as that trip may only be a short one, I won’t brake in to ask a question, just listen.

Suppose for some people the same may be the case for forums like this one.

Well someone has made mention of this site on the union forums in off topic or general or whatever it is. The department hate photos being posted and people speaking on forums.

I have had a run in with the department once before so this does not surprise me

For instance, a member may contribute to some forums and just read what others say in others. Couldn't the mischevious person you hint at just be a guest?

I think people should heed the advice of Mike & Jafo on this one. Quite clearly there are people on here using this forum for intelligence gathering, and that means they are prepared to use the information elsewhere in ways posters might not like.

For the record I was the one threatened and it was by a union delegate- not the employer. Not going to say any more but let the delegate know that just as he can dig dirt on me I can do the same... two can get nasty if that is what a union delegate thinks being a delegate is about. And for the record- I am also a union delegate!

But can we just avoid discussing industrial/union matters here? It places many of us in situations where we choose either to be honest & risk crossing the line, or having to stay silent when we know information of relevence. It makes being here difficult.

Regards,

Richard
