SPAM
Hi All, Due to the sudden dramatic rise in SPAM, NEW Accounts will now require activation by captcha. This will greatly reduce the amount of SPAM being automatically produced. - Mike
Wednesday 5th July, 2009 Spam has increasingly become an issue once again on the website, and in this day and age of technology it is a worldwide problem. Sydney Fire Administrators have noticed an increase in spam, primarily on the shoutbox. If you notice any spam, please alert the administrators via the contact page and they will handle the situation by deleting the content in question along with banning the account. We ask that when you contact one of the administrators that you include the usernames of users spamming. We appreciate any assistance in the matter, and we will be looking into a further method of blocking the spam altogether. Thanks for your understanding in the matter. Kindest Regards, Sydney Fire Administrators
Hi all Time for a Sydney fire site update.ForumsWell the big news of the day is that we finally have the new Sydney fire forums up and running. The reason for changing from the original forum backend was that one- the old forums database was integrated into the website database; this makes it hard to do running backups as well as slowing down the response time of the main site. Second is that the old forums would not work once the posts made a second page, this was got around by increasing the posts per page, however this was only ever going to be a temporary fix. There where defiantly a few teething problems with the introduction of the forum section in relation to user login, however I believe that all these issues are now rectified and the forum login is operating correct. If you are still having problems accessing the forums once logged into the Sydney fire main site please let me know. While still on the forums, you may have noticed an increase in the topic list avail for posts, this was due to many requests to allow other emergency services information to be posted. I have no plans of changing the focus of the main site, as this was always my primary interest. However there may be some additional information added to the site in the weeks to come.GalleryNow that the forum upgrade is competed, my next focus will be on upgrading the Gallery. This is due to the fact that can be difficult to upload to and sometime the upload fails with no picture displaying. Also I would like to allow each user to have the own folder so as to allow beater control for the user over there photos. This will not stop the display of fire photos in topics as is currently the practice. The software for the new gallery is installed; I am just putting a lot more effort into checking for stability before changing over, unlike the forums. Please continue to use the current gallery as all information will be transferred across when the migration happens. If you have any suggestions into the way the gallery should be structured i.e. the same or different to the current style please post in the forums under the topic I have created.Live StreamIf the stream goes down for any reason there are now several ways to get in contact with me to rectify the situation, email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , add a post in the forums / shout box, or if you have it you can contact my by my MSN contact. I am hopping to get a UPS sooner rather than later as loss of power is the primary reason for fire stream failures.RemindersForumsThe previous issue of not using “/ “ or “\” in there forum topic headings is now no longer relevant. Thanks Mike |
